This online workshop introduces urban farming from the founder of Upaj farm who is an expert in chemical-free and pesticide-free farming. In the ecosystem where environmental concerns are critical, Urban Farming is a significant need in the times of food security and sovereignty. It engages with the idea of organic farming in the overall health concerns. Planned with a practical approach- GIY- Grow it yourself, it aims at developing skills required for urban farming- growing vegetables and seasonal exotics, setting up kitchen/ terrace and balcony garden.
The workshop covers aspects of organic farming such as Soil as Foundation, all about annuals and perennials, transplanting, seed sowing, staking, harvesting, and most importantly organic pest management. The workshop gives knowledge and skills for growing vegetables and fruits in your terrace/balcony/verandah in containers and land. It helps to know how to pick containers and planters in creating one’s kitchen garden. The workshop will explain how to choose a site, how to prepare the soil, what to sow, and how to sow.
Join us and let us dig in together to create an Urban Oasis at home.

Upaj Farm, an initiative by an architect Avanee Jain, is an attempt to remember, revive and nurture agriculture in an urban setting.
In this bleak scenario, a silver lining is seen in the initiatives of an architect who moved away from working with bricks, mortar, and their design to agriculture so that she could re-inculcate in society a love for agriculture.
Avanee Jain is an Architect turned Farmer and a Mother. Her journey with research on growing food without chemicals and pesticides began over a decade ago. She dug into this Natural world to explore and examine techniques and invaluable Indian cultural practices in the field of organic farming that were lost in the post-independence era. Making agriculture her natural abode, a humble dwelling, or as the cliché is ‘going back to the basics, for Avanee Jain.
The more She explored, the greedier she got to share this knowledge with co-urban dwellers for our benefit as well as that of Mother Nature’s. Upaj Farm was born as a platform to both showcase these techniques, as well as continue this journey of unearthing ways of living in harmony with all beings on this planet.
She has received an award/acknowledgement from globally recognized WOMEN PLANET - Planets Pride 2018. Recently she has also been chosen by FACEBOOK for their initiative “She Means Business”.
